You know how they say don’t judge a book by its cover?

I always had the perception of The Maslow Sandton being purely for business conferences and networking lunch sessions.

To be honest, I did visit the hotel on several occasions for that exact reason.

I never looked at The Maslow Sandton as a place to relax and unwind a little with friends or family but all that has changed after my recent visit when I got to know the hotel and their offerings a little better.

Firstly, I must say, I was impressed by their signature cocktails and delicious dinner that left me salivating for more.

If you are looking for a nice spot to celebrate a special occasion or to just take a mini-break in the city – The Maslow Sandton might be for you. There is even the Africology spa to spoil yourself a little which I highly recommend you visit.

They cater to more than business conferences and weddings. You can host your birthday party, baby shower, kitchen tea, and much more here. The hotel has a modern, trendy look that will get you loads of compliments for your choice of venue.

The Maslow is the only hotel in Sandton that has a large, lush, natural garden. You can step outside into a peaceful green space with established trees, a lawn, and a beautiful pool deck. Although the hotel is in a suburban environment there is a sense of open space in which you can relax – either in the gardens or overlooking them from the pool, or on the Lacuna Bistro and Bar deck.

The Room:

After staying in the suite, I must admit, it will be a little difficult to go back to their standard rooms.

It is spacious, comfortable and the shower…. I wish I spent more time there.

I would have been happy just spending the evening in my gown enjoying the beautiful view from the suite and comfy bed but there were cocktails waiting to be sipped on downstairs. 😉

Did someone say Tapas and cocktails?

Catch-up sessions with my besties always include lots of food and drinks so I was excited to see what The Maslow Sandton has to offer, and I must say they did not disappoint. The vibe, the service, and the variety of drinks from their new signature cocktail menu accompanied by the tapas bar menu which boasts finger-licking dishes such as salt and pepper squid are worth trying. All dishes are priced between R40 and R125.

Spoil yourself at Africology:

The Africology Spa is your ticket to inner-city relaxation. Their products are amazing, and the best part is it is a South African brand. I cannot wait to try their skincare range.

Africology uses the finest natural and organic ingredients plus they are cruelty-free. Find out more here –

The spa offers a variety of treatments including facials, wraps, scrubs, and aromatherapy treatments.

I had a facial and massage which I thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely go back to try some of their other treatments. It was exactly what I needed after a crazy week of work and the little garden outside offered the perfect spot to relax and unwind a little in the middle of the city. I could just picture myself relaxing there with a nice book and a cup of tea.

Dinner at Lacuna Bistro

I highly recommend you try the Chicken and Prawn Curry at the restaurant. It’s a popular dish at the restaurant and now I understand why.

To be honest, I was flabbergasted at how delicious this dish was.

The prawns cooked to perfection drowned in aromatic spices were exactly what my taste buds needed to end an amazing evening at The Maslow Sandton with good company.

The Maslow is no longer one of the grand old ladies of Johannesburg – it is a modern, hip, cool hotel where millennials like me, hang out indulging in delicious cocktails and scrumptious dinners.

Staycations do not have to be boring, especially in the city. There is so much to see and do in Sandton and I must say, some of our best restaurants are hidden in the city. I love being a tourist in my own city and encourage you to do the same.

So, the next time you are in Sandton, you know where to head out for a cocktail or two. 😉
